On December 13, 2025, the new National Scouting Cybersecurity Merit Badge was officially launched at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (NMUSAF) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The event was a resounding success, with almost 300 Scouts participating in a full day of cybersecurity education and hands on activities.
Program highlights included:
• Fully digital, modern merit badge curriculum with integrated text and video resources
• Strong emphasis on cyber ethics, online safety, and responsible digital citizenship
• Hands-on instruction covering threats, vulnerabilities, malware, and defense techniques
• Cryptography fundamentals and secure communications activities • Interactive cybersecurity game challenge reinforcing key concepts
The Wright Memorial Chapter 212 of the Air and Space Forces Association and the Ohio Cyber Reserve played a critical role in the event’s success, providing strong volunteer support, technical expertise, and instructional leadership throughout the program. Their involvement ensured Scouts received accurate, relevant, and engaging cybersecurity instruction rooted in real world practice.
