Bellbrook High School Junior Reserve
Officer Corps - Unit OH-20061

The United States Air Force and the Sugarcreek Local School District established a Junior Reserve Officer Corps Program at Bellbrook High School in August 2006. Unit OH-20061 is run by Senior Aerospace Instructor Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Eugene A. Longo and Assistant Aerospace Instructor Master Sergeant (retired) Tony Chitwood.

For Academic Year 2011-2012, OH-20061 has 110 cadets (students) in the program in grades nine through twelve.

Program Highlights include the past five years as being recognized by Headquarters Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps as a Distinguished Unit from among the over 800 programs located across the country and overseas.

Since 2006, the cadets of OH-20061 have collected over 60,000 cans of food for the local shelters in Dayton, Ohio. The food is delivered at the start of the Thanksgiving and Christmas Seasons.

Since 2006, the cadets of OH-20061 have performed over 15,000 hours of community service. The community service has included yard work, painting, serving food, cleaning up after events, recycling all waste paper, plastic, and cardboard generated at Bellbrook High School, and many other activities. Annually the cadets Christmas carol for the patients at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, support the Air Force Marathon, 9/11 and Veterans Day ceremonies at the high school and in the local community, etc.

Since 2006, the color guard team of OH-20061 has performed at myriad of events and locations. Some of the highlights include twice performing for the Ohio Congressmen in Washington DC, dedication ceremonies for the local Wal-Mart, McDonalds, Miami Valley South Hospital, various sporting events at Ohio State University, Wright State University, University of Dayton, the Cincinnati Red and many other unique and special events in the community.

Since 2006, the cadet corps has taken field trips to Colorado (Air Force Academy, Cheyenne Mountain, Pikes Peak, etc.), Florida (Kennedy Space Center, Eglin Air Force Base, Hurlburt Field, etc.), Washington D.C., and Virginia (Norfolk Naval Station.) The cadets are able to learn about the military and also discover our great country.
